Ignite your powerhouse.
Pilates is a series of movements that will stabilize and strengthen your core, needing total precision and control.
Whether you wish to tone your body, lose weight or rehabilitate from an injury, mat and reformer Pilates can guide you and prepare your body to achieve the best possible results.
If you have tried Pilates, then you’ll know just how wrong this myth is.
Pilates can be very challenging, often more so than weight training or running miles on a treadmill.
This is because Pilates exercises require precise movements and the holding of challenging positions. You’ll also need to coordinate the movement of your limbs at the same time as controlling the moving parts of the Pilates machine to get through a class successfully. This is what makes Pilates such a brilliant full-body workout.
People seem to think that Pilates and Yoga are interchangeable, but this is not the case.
The main difference is that Yoga focuses more on flexibility and broad muscle groups while Pilates focuses on muscle toning, body control, and core strength. Yoga is primarily a spiritual practice and Pilates’s aim is to get the body moving in the most efficient way possible.
Both are important, but they are not the same!
Pilates was invented by Joseph Pilates and was initially used on the male inmates at a prisoner of war camp on the Isle of Wight to help them keep fit.
For those that lift weights and think Pilates will be too easy, think again. Having to control movements very deliberately and precisely in Pilates can feel so much more difficult than doing a few reps on a heavy barbell.
Over the years I have taught many men that has have transformed through Pilates, physically and mentally.
